Serves 4-6
1. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
2. Add the shortening and sugar, and mix with a fork.
3. Add enough water to make a dough and knead gently.
4. Cut the dough into 4 to 6 pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Let stand for a few minutes.
5. Flatten the balls of dough until they are about ¼ inch thick, and fry in hot oil until they are brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
